Fondazione Biscozzi Rimbaud 2

Fondazione Biscozzi Rimbaud

The Biscozzi | Rimbaud Foundation is a must-visit for art-lovers, located at the Piazzetta Baglivi in Lecce. This impressive centre of the arts features over two-hundred Italian and international works, all of which were created in the 20th century. Whilst special attention is paid to works dating from 1950 - 1980, the Foundation will exhibit ‘Lucus’ by contemporary multimedia artist and composer Yuval Avital, starting on July 15th and running until January 7th, 2024.

The word ‘Lucus’ means ‘sacred forest’, a concept Avital explores through this site-specific project. Spiritually significant to the ancient Romans, the concept of ‘Lucus’ has been passed down through the creative arts, with the exhibition seeking to understand the relationship between communities and their cultural and natural roots. Consisting of installations, sound sculptures and surreal plaster statuettes; of dreamlike paintings, sound assemblages and lightboxes, the exhibition explores different modes of expression, with these seemingly distant elements relating the present moment to the origins and rituals associated with this type of landscape.
