In Salento, along the Ionian coast, postcard-perfect landscapes unfold one after another: the Dunes of Campomarino di Maruggio, with sea junipers and trails through Mediterranean scrub; the Monks' Saltworks inhabited by flamingos; Punta Prosciutto with its Caribbean-like sea and breathtaking sunsets. The Marine Protected Area of Porto Cesareo hides Roman columns and underwater caves. Porto Selvaggio Park can be explored on foot, walking through Aleppo pines and thyme-scented paths leading to a tiny pebble beach, while in the Palude del Capitano, freshwater springs meet the sea. Further south stretch endless golden beaches: from Gallipoli to Pescoluse—also known as the “Maldives of Salento”—passing through the marinas of Ugento, where elegant beach clubs alternate with hidden coves. Every Thursday, until August 28, free excursions depart from Lido Pineta in the Fontanelle area of Ugento, exploring dunes, ponds, canals, and hills in the Ugento Coastal Regional Nature Park.
"Esplorando" offers guided treks along the coast among golden dunes and wild lilies (July 31); through freshwater canals and migratory birds (July 10 and August 7); around the artificial basins of one of the largest wetlands in Salento (July 17 and August 21), now a biodiversity haven and birdwatching paradise; and to the Specchia del Corno, among the scents of Mediterranean scrub and the rocky heights of the Salentine Hills (July 24 and August 28).
