SALENTO | Yeast Photo Festival: Food as a Mirror of the World

Until November 9, Salento becomes the beating heart of international photography with the fourth edition of Yeast Photo Festival, which this year explores the theme of food inequalities under the title “(N)ever Enough”. Fourteen exhibitions spread across Lecce, Matino, Supersano, Galatina, and Gallipoli transform historic palaces, underground oil mills, and even the seaside walls into contemporary galleries, offering a powerful and polyphonic gaze on food as nourishment, symbol, and contradiction.

Among the highlights is Martin Parr, with two exhibitions in Matino and Lecce and an urban preview on the walls of Gallipoli, narrating with irony and a pop eye our daily relationship with food. Pulitzer Prize 2025 winner Ivor Prickett presents at Palazzo Scarciglia in Lecce “War on the Nile – Fragmented Sudan”, a raw testimony of a war where food becomes a weapon for survival.

Emotion and wonder also come with Blake Little, who at the Hypogeum Oil Mill in Matino presents bodies immersed in honey, living sculptures suspended in time, and with Hiền Hoàng, who explores the Asian diaspora and cultural stereotypes through letters and family memories. Completing the journey are projects depicting meals on trains, the hands that shape bread, and off-grid life in the United States.

Yeast Photo Festival is a mosaic of stories and visions intertwining food, memory, and global identity, inviting the audience to look beyond the surface of dishes and into the contradictions of our present.
